John works with ancient swamp Kauri that has been carefully extracted from peat swamps where it has been buried and preserved for more than 45,000 years. Found in the northern reaches of New Zealand, it is the oldest workable wood on the world. Its awesome natural beauty and character is made into amazing pieces by John, anything from garden seats to bowls. John also works with Oamaru stone from the East Coast of the south island. The stone is easily shaped and is a favourite with many NZ stone carvers and sculptors. John has half day and full day workshops where you can work and make a sculpture out of Kauri or Oamaru stone with his help and expert guidance. |

A must see attraction for art buyers and enthusiasts. When you walk into Gabriella’s mudbrick studio gallery you are immediately greeted by the serenity and inspiration of this special place, while experiencing the surrounds of this stunning location overlooking a stunning coastal landscape. Gabriella’s paintings and studio practice pays homage to the spiritual nature of the land, sea, and the rich underpinnings of the ancestral histories, both within her own Irish linage and Greek up-bringing, as well as within the cultural history of ‘Motuaarairoa’, the ‘long sheltering island’, Waiheke Island. Typical pieces are often thickly textured using intense colours and are either panels displayed on their own or a series of three grouped together.

This 2+hour tour brings contemporary sculpture and nature together. Jill and John Gow are passionate about bringing art and nature to you; they have installed site-specific sculptures in a coastal and rural environment. They have planted sweeps of native trees and have created special spaces for commissioned New Zealand sculpture. Truly one of the best activities in New Zealand and one of the best value for money things to do on Waiheke and New Zealand. This walk can only be experienced with prior booking and is open from late October to late April.
